چکیده

Lowland ecotype Cyperus rotundus L. has been reported to infest irrigated lowland ricefields in the Philippines. Its effects on growth and yield of rice under flooded conditions are unknown. Two experimental runs were conducted a screenhouse determine C. with transplanted wet direct-seeded at sowing densities 0, 22, 44, 66, 88 initial germinating tubers m–2, as well its rice. Except for height, variables increased increase tuber densities. Compared 22 number off-shoots plus shoot root biomass 44–88 m–2 by up three times. Growth reduced weed. Grain was 14–38%, whereas that 11–28%. The estimated losses per weed plant 0.8 0.1% density approached zero (i) 75.7 66.1% infinity (a). Estimated 0.6 two i 63.8 100% a. Results suggest can grow reduce conditions. Although findings obtained conditions, results imply need developing holistic control strategy against

Adaptation to flooding in upland and lowland ecotypes of Cyperus rotundus, a troublesome sedge weed of rice: tuber morphology and carbohydrate metabolism.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS In recent years, Cyperus rotundus has become a problem weed in lowland rice (Oryza sativa) grown in rotation with vegetables in the Philippines. As the growth of C. rotundus is commonly suppressed by prolonged flooding, the ability of the weed to grow vigorously in flooded as well as upland conditions suggests that adapted ecotypes occur in these rotations. Studies were cond...

Morphological and physiological responses of lowland purple nutsedge (Cyperus rotundus L.) to flooding

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Purple nutsedge (Cyperus rotundus L.) is a major weed of upland crops and vegetables. Recently, a flood-tolerant ecotype evolved as a serious weed in lowland rice. This study attempted to establish the putative growth and physiological features that led to this shift in adaptation. METHODOLOGY Tubers of upland C. rotundus (ULCR) and lowland C. rotundus (LLCR) ecotypes were...

Norcyperone, a novel skeleton norsesquiterpene from Cyperus rotundus L.

A novel norsesquiterpene, named norcyperone (1), and three known compounds: (-)-clovane-2,9-diol (2), rosenonolactone (3), and 5 alpha,8 alpha-epidioxy-(20S,22E,24R)-ergosta-6,22-dien-3beta-ol (4) were isolated from the rhizomes of Cyperus rotundus L. The structure of 1 was elucidated as 8,11,11-trimethylbicyclo[5.3.1]undecane-5 alpha, 8 alpha-epoxy-3-one on the basis of extensive spectroscopic...
